A downloadable game for Windows

Full release soon on Steam!

Partum Arifex started out as a game jam entry and managed to win the Senscapes Adventurous Game Jam 2021. Ever since then I've been working hard on expanding the experience and introduce more mechanics, new story, new areas, new and improved puzzles, and, more importantly, more scares.

I highly suggest you dont play the game in this state as it is bare bone and more like a concept than the upcoming full release.

Please take a moment and check out our Steam page!

Synopsis
On your drive, late at night, an old house catches your attention. You stop to soak up the creepy scenery in but you are surprised that there's a light on in the top window. As you approach the house, it suddenly turns off. Maybe investigating the house was a bad idea... maybe not?

Nature of the Game
The game focuses heavily on storytelling, puzzles and atmosphere. Some of these puzzles might be a bit hard, so keep a pen and paper around, pay attention to your environment! If things get too hard, however... look below for a walkthrough!

The Senscape Adventurous Game Jam
This game was made during the 2-week long Game Jam hosted by Senscape and Epic Games!

I just want to express how phenomenal your game is, but also how much I enjoyed your retrospective! When you got to the end and mentioned it was getting lengthy and it was probably boring, I think it was anything but boring! I would have loved to know more about the level design, that always fascinates me. I’m an instructional designer who creates eLearning courses but I’ve always had a secret desire to develop video games! Thank you so much for letting the player pull back the curtain and peek into your head regarding the development process. I just adored learning about it.

Best,

Laura

This was a fantastic experience even though I was baffled by the clock puzzle..  I did solve it eventually but I still don't understand what I missed to make it "make sense".  Awesome story, graphics and twist!  5 stars and a follow from me!  You rock!

This was way too good for game jam expectations! Well done!

Congratulations on taking first place (again) Chef!

Amazing game, enjoyed it really much, can't wait for the new version!

Amazing game, honestly my favourite horor game rn. The atmosphere is really good, the music fits so well and it made me feel so uneazy. I love the plot, the twist, the antagonist was voiced really well, the lense mechanic was really creative, and i loved how the antagonist was weirdly relatable! The antagonist's writing made me feel super emotional as well, i love when people write like that, really felt the 2nd painting's description in the heart! Overall a really really reeeally good game, i'm looking forward to seeing more from you in the future!

Running is so slow

enjoy the gameplay guys and share around thx

Absolutely fabulous!

Yes, First place without a doubt. There are so many projects which inspire in this game jam. But yours is special. Perfect visual with good optimization (punch myself, huh), real good sound desin. Music creeping me out, but in the time calming me too and helping thinking. But what realy inportant - flow state. Real flow state like in a big games from big boys. Puzzles are perfect, not to hard, but no brainless. And you feel like you can do anything even if you know game is linear. Process like in our favorite oldschool horrors (Sh, Re, Condemned etc).

But... Just... One... Thing:) Clock puzzles. It was very hard. First time when I used walktrough. Ok, UV on paintig - good. But another clock - I don't get it:) But everything else - gorgeous! Thanks for good time. Make some details - and go to Steam or another shop:)

P.s. Did you ever read something about gamedesign? I realy want to know!

Hey! Thanks for a wonderful comment! The sound designer was very pleased to read about your comment regarding the music! Me and him have already decided that we'll continue to work on this project so that we can release it on Steam and Itch early 2022!

I got 3 years of uni studying game design and have been making my own little games for a few years now, so I got quite a bit of game design experience :)

Thanks again for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Honestly, I have no idea how this game is free and not on the top "best games" list on this page.

Scenery was superlative - attention to detail, every small part and inch of this game was breathing on screen and the immersive location was over the top. I can't express enough with words how good this looked.

The mechanics part of this game and puzzles were a challenge, which most games are afraid to do, because probably they can't balance the overall vibe of it all and this game did it so well, that towards the end, which, by the way, is delivered brilliantly, had us clapping and cheering for what was next.

I have no issues with any part of this game, this is flawless, this is top notch, grand, amazing game. I am looking forward to new projects from you and more stories to come, even the continuation of this one. Cheers!

Hey!

Thank you so much for liking the game as much as you did! I'm honoured to have you say such kind words. Might I ask who "us" are? :D

I got more plans in store for the antagonist and this game in particular. So in the somewhat near future I hope to have something to show!

Again, thank you so much for the lovely words!

By us, I meant the players.
Thanks for the response. I really do feel that this game deserves more praise and attention, which sadly it does not get, but it will! Continue working and making great things! Cheers!

Man I forgot to reply here on Itch... Thank you so much for taking your time to play it! It was a blast watching your video :)

How long is gameplay please?

I would say about an hour, give or take :)

screwdriver? where to use it?

Hi! You use on the bookcase in the kids room. Looking at the house blueprints you'll see that is covering up something important...! :)
